4:27 pm We were able to see Denny for a brief few minutes and although he wasn’t able to respond to us, they said he could hear us. We have to wait until 4:30 to go back again and visit. Not sure if he will be awake. Needless to say, I am pretty much exhausted right now.
12:19 pm The surgeon spoke to us. Everything went very well, he is all sewed up and doing just fine. The surgeon said that it was a great heart – very healthy, the kind of heart that he wishes he had. It is obvious that the Lord was involved in every aspect of this procedure as it has gone so well. God is amazing, and we are all so grateful and thankful to Him for His goodness. We will be going to see Denny shortly.
10:23 am The nurse came back and told us that he is now breathing on his own and blood is pumping though the heart!
9:15 am The nurse just came over to me (everyone else went out to breakfast) and told me that they are sewing in the new heart. I can’t believe how quick they do that. So far, everything is going very smoothly. Thank you Lord!
The heart arrives at 7:50 am. It was taken from the donor at 6:35 am and they call it the “magic window” which is a four hour time period to get the blood flowing back through it. So if all goes well, before 10:30 am, Denny will have a new heart.
We got the call last night around 11:15 or so that a heart was available for Denny. He had gone to Lutheran Hospital on Monday to get stabilized, and it worked out that a heart became available. So we left the house this morning at 2:50 am, arrived in Fort Wayne at 4:30 am (record time!). This place is pretty amazing, the cardiac center is pretty high tech – everything is completely computerized. Anyway, we got to see Denny and talked for a bit and then all of us prayed for him and he went in to anesthesia at 5:50 am. So we are here now, in the lobby waiting… Thankfully they have free internet service.
josh my thoughts are with you and your friends hope all the doctors are performing at top speed.
PRAISE THE LORD! God is so good eh! Well, I will talk to you soon. I just got off the phone with Candace and know that Denny is doing well.
Praise God! I am very happy that he has a very young heart. I have been praying for him for such a long time. Praise God the family of the doner allowed their daughter to live on in someone else. Thank You Jesus!!
