Declaration/Rant

Posted on Thursday 23 October 2003Thursday 29 March 2018 by Joshua

Conservative Reformist. That is not a party in the United States, but it should be. That’s where I would sign up.

I think the Democrat party is run by a bunch of elitist left-wing, extremist, illogical, money-spending, pro-big government, absurdly politically correct, pro-death, wishy washy, spineless, environmentally and socially whacked out people who do not have the interests of the American people at heart. Likewise, I think the Republican party is run by a bunch of stodgy, elitist, big oil-loving, warmongering, big-money-spending, gun toting-good-old-boys, environment killers, conservatives who claim (often) Christianity and who clearly do not show it by their actions and do not have the interests of the American people at heart.

I am a conservative. Because I believe in the Bible and the principles found in the Bible, It governs who I am. But I also strongly believe in reform. Drastic reform in America needs to take place. That being said …

Yes, I do believe that abortion is murder. There is actually legislation saying that a mother can now kill her child as long as the umbilical cord has not be cut yet. That is murder. The next step, by the way, is euthanasia – killing the elderly when they are no longer “able to contribute to society.” Next comes, “if we can’t genetically cure them before they are born, let’s be sure to eliminate the mentally handicapped and sick as they will only be a burden to society. As people of conscience, this cannot be allowed.

Yes, I believe that the government is way too big and spends way too much of the money of average Americans on bloated salaries and perks for out-of-touch politicians. Are you tired of paying 33% of your hard-earned money for increasingly absurd programs and studies? To public schools that are failing to educate our children? For wars that fail their objectives? (Nope. We still haven’t caught Saddam or Osama, and where did those darned WMD’s go? Oh by the way, we need another $66 billion to fix up Iraq.) Oh yeah, and don’t start saying the rich need to pay more. That is a stupid argument. I believe it is the top 14% of Americans account for 30% of the income tax. That sounds a bit skewed to me. Why punish a guy because he is successful? How about we all pay the same rate – a flat fee every year.

Yes, I believe that the church has drastically failed to fulfill it’s God-mandated role to care about those in need, thus making it necessary for people to have to accept government handouts like food stamps. If we, the church, were doing our job, such programs would not need to exist in a country as affluent as America. Perhaps we could spend less on our massive shopping mall-sized church facilities and more on helping those in need pay their electric bills. Perhaps we could set up free daycares for single parents. Wouldn’t that speak volumes about what Jesus taught?

Yes, I believe that we need to be understand and learn about other cultures and ethnic backgrounds. God created all races and they are beautiful in His sight. Racism and Bigotry = Ignorance. God’s word says to love your brother and your neighbor as yourself. It never specifies color. (Affirmative action is nonsense. Employment should be based on qualifications, not a race quota. I find that to be racist in and of itself.) America is a melting pot of racial diversity. Isn’t that the entire point of why we were founded?

Yes, I believe in gun control. Violence in America is rampantly out of control. I think it is time to start yanking violent video games off shelves and cracking down on the glorification of violence in films. Seriously folks, have you ever watched and of the newly elected Republican Governor Swarzeneggar films? All they are (generally) is wanton violence and shooting. This man represents the Republican party? As if we don’t have enough problems with guns already, now we have the Terminator as a role model. Why do we allow little kids to play games like Doom (or similar – they are all the same, just different titles) where the main objective is to aim, pull the trigger and kill? How is that healthy? Why are we surprised when two kids who were messed up already, and spent hours in front of these games and listened to music with violent lyrics show up at school and kill their classmates? Why are we so horrified by that? It is awful, yes, but IT IS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WHO ARE ALLOWING IT EVERYDAY TO GO UNCHECKED.

Yes, I believe in caring for the environment. God instructed man to tend and keep the earth. I don’t believe in the liberal scare tactics that the ozone hole is going to get too big and melt the polar ice caps and we will all be flooded and die. There are intelligent people on the other side who can prove that the ozone hole is a natural phenomena and that one volcano produces more “ozone harming agents” than mankind has been able to produce…ever. I believe that God is in control of the destiny of the earth, and when He wills, it will be destroyed. Not until then. That being said, he still told us to tend and keep it. Meaning we can’t be cutting down the rainforests, the Redwoods and the Sequoias like madmen. They produce a huge percentage of the earth’s oxygen. Meaning we need to find energy alternatives for oil dependent cars and trucks (major pollutants) and harness other sources of power to fuel our homes. Meaning we can’t be putting the rights of animals and plants ahead of the rights of people. Sorry folks, but even though I love animals and can’t kill one, humans were set as keepers of the earth. Not monkeys … well, maybe in Washington DC.

Yes, I believe in tolerance… to a point. I think we are all so afraid to speak out for anything that we believe if it might possibly step on someone’s toes, that we all pussyfoot around everything. In America, we were guaranteed freedom of speech. Not anymore. Now it is “freedom of speech unless it hurts someone’s feelings.” Then you can get sued.

Just because I am a single, Caucasian, conservative male (and probably a minority now) doesn’t mean I should get special privileges. I think we as a nation (women, men, gay, straight, black, white) should have equal rights and privileges as stated in the Bill of Rights.

I am sick of being assaulted by sexuality. Everywhere you look it is consuming our culture. Children are being exposed at younger ages to subtle things than desensitize them. From vacuum cleaner ads to alcohol, sex is used to sell everything. It needs to stop. It will only destroy us and those who come after us.

I believe in the legalization of marijuana. Alcohol is a far worse drug with much more harmful effects – both physically and socially. From child/spouse abuse to drunk driving/manslaughter, the negative effects of alcohol consumption far outweigh marijuana smoking. I think it is dumb to fight a war on something so comparatively benign when there are far more deleterious substances out there worth spending the resources and time to fight. (At the same time I believe legalizing pot would only weaken it. There is a certain element of rebelliousness that would not longer exist if it were legal. Also the FDA would be able to regulate it as they do cigarettes.)

I believe in personal responsibility. I am so tired of people who can not take responsibility for their actions. Frivilous lawsuits (wasting tax dollars) over outlandish things must be stopped. From people who blame McDonalds for their addiction to Big Macs which causes their obesity, or spilled coffee that is too hot, or (imagine) cigarettes that cause cancer…etc. etc. etc. It is time Americans stop blaming their own problems on some big corporation when in most cases it is their own fault. I fail to see why it is McDonald’s fault that you ate so many of their fries that you can no longer fit in their booths. Stop eating the fries, my friend.

I believe in capital punishment. I think that if you take a life, your life should be taken. I believe in fair trials, but if proven guilty by an impartial jury of peers, then execution should be immediate. For hate crimes, rapists and child molesters… I don’t think jail is hard enough for people who have done that. (I temper the above with – no matter what these people have done, Jesus still loves them and will forgive them and cleanse them, but there still has to be a consequence for the crime.) [3/29/18 – Reading back over this point years later… I donโ€™t know if I would phrase it like this any more. I think it is a much more complex issue than how I expressed it here, and I believe in the power of God to change hearts and the extension of great grace and mercy.]ย

I could keep going, but it is late and I am tired. I love America. It’s the politicians I can’t stand. Just because I am a conservative Christian does not make me an idiot. (And quite frankly, many times, are deserving of that title, by over-reacting and then sending moronic e-mails based on nothing but speculation.) I am not going to buy the liberal media’s lame explanations and editorials. I will not subscribe to Hollywood’s values (or lack thereof). What I believe is based on truth. Call it intolerant. Call it old-fashioned. I don’t care. All truth comes from God, and at some point down the road, He is whom we will have to answer to. And in the end, I pray that I can say that I loved my neighbor, helped the poor, and lived my life as a servant of people.

“America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.โ€โ€” Alexis de Tocqueville
