So I have been wanting to say something about this beautiful Christmas project but had to wait until tonight’s reveal! 21 years ago, a large church in Amsterdam, NY burned down in the middle of winter. The church had beautiful Tiffany stained glass windows, and Sara was able to collect some of the fragments. She gave them to me probably 15 or so years ago and they have been sitting in a bowl on a shelf … waiting. This year I decided that the wait was over and I was going to do something with them. So I commissioned an artist I met through a photographer in St. Joe, May Schultz-Reed. May took my sketch and all these pieces of glass and created this amazing piece of art that has now been delivered to my sister in NY. It turned out so much better than I imagined it would, and Sara was so happy and surprised. There’s a lot of symbolism in the colors and of course, the dancing star in the center – passionate red – and symbolic of the constant North Star, the guidepost and anchor. Thank you, May, for your amazing work! In addition, there were small pieces left over, so she so thoughtfully put together some companion pieces so as to be able to cherish the beauty of those colors.
If anyone is interested in seeing more of her work, stop by The Chartreuse Gallery in St Joe, right next to the Chocolate Cafe. There are other local artists who exhibit there as well.
