My sister, Sara, sent me this amazing photo the other day. It’s an abstract sculpture that my dad carved a few years ago and I have always loved it. Last I saw it, it was resting in a shed in upstate NY, and now here it is, gracing the courthouse marble in Schenectady, NY.
I love this piece. It is just so fascinating that this was carved out of a single log and I wish I had more angles of it to share. It’s taller than me, and fairly big around. The beauty of the lines, the golden color and the deep browns, and the curvilinear form of the shapes are just so wonderful. It is probably one of my favorite things he has done, and it filled me with such happiness to see that displayed like that. Dad is really an artist. He carves bears and other things, and that’s all good… but this… this is the really amazing stuff inside that might not even make any sense to anyone else, but this is the stuff that just comes out when there is no agenda or no plan… this is the flow of creativity, the inspiration, that you just have to let out. I love it and I love him for doing it.
That is indeed one amazing piece of artwork. That is such a great accomplishment, congrats to your dad. I know you are really proud of him!
