Collars up…

Posted on Thursday 2 September 2004 by Joshua

It all started the other day when I saw this kid at my church with his collar turned up. I laughed and said, “Wow, I remember the days when that was really cool.” My friend Robert said to me that they do it all the time at school now. “Prep” has returned to the school yard. That really made laugh. “No way,” I said. But there is a return to some of the more “prep” trends of the 80s. Thankfully, the belly shirts are passe, and girls who should never have worn them in the first place will be thankfully covered.

I was at the store the other day and was browsing t-shirts. Now, I wasn’t especially looking for a t-shirt, just curious what was out there. What I found was that the 80s are coming back, sorta. I saw the Dukes of Hazzard, Back to the Future, Nintendo, Masters of the Universe and even the Care Bears. I had to laugh at the obvious attempt to recreate the same exact designs that I remember seeing years ago. There were so many fashions in the 80s that crack me up now… Remember some of these?

I will never forget that for my birthday in 7th grade I got the cutest Purle LA Gear outfit, and a Stonewashed Jean Pocketbook. I thought that I was the cutest thing ever. I totally loved the 80’s
