So yesterday was beautiful — almost 70 degrees — sun and cloud mix. I spent some time up at the Michigan City Dunes. Today dawned and it was freezing! In the 30s all day with a wet, windy morning. After work, I dropped Joey off at his house and stopped at the Camp for a moment and saw Jerry Reeder getting out of his car.
Jerry: Hey Josh. So, you going riding today?
Josh: Uhhh… I thought about it, but it’s 34. Kinda cold for me.
Jerry. Hmm. Well, I’m going jogging.
(Note: Jerry is 75.)
Josh: Wow. Seriously? Ok! Have fun.
5 minutes later at my house, I said, “Well my gosh. If a 75 year old man can go jogging, well then I sure as heck can go on a bike ride. And so I did. I put on many layers of clothes (UnderArmour, two pairs of sweats, t-shirt, more UnderArmour, thermal shirt, sweatshirt/hoodie, gloves, thinsulate ear muffs, hat), and off I rode. It was cold and swiftly getting dark (and colder), but I managed to get in just about 4 miles in 20 minutes before it got dark. Definitely had to rise to the challenge in this case! Jerry is amazing. I hope I am as active as he is when I reach 75!
