It was an amazingly hot Memorial Day. The temperature in Michigan City (where I was for most of the day) actually reached 103! Thankfully, the waters of Lake Michigan were quite cooling.
Before I left, I was doing some cleaning and had to dispose of our old flag from last year. It was pretty tattered as we have it on the corner of the house where it is quite visible, but in a very windy area. I always feel weird about burning the flag – as if I am doing something wrong and the Flag Police are going to jump out and grab me for being unAmerican. I know it is the proper way to dispose of a flag (according to US Flag Code TITLE 4 > CHAPTER 1 > Sec. 8(k) “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”) but still, the sight of it on fire…
On Sunday, I took the SeaDoo down to Warsaw to get ready for summer. I’m running a bit behind as I usually put it in on Memorial Day. Thankfully, my good friend Jesse Felger is around this summer and he so kindly took us out on the boat. Let me just tell you thast although it was a hot sunny day… the water has not really warmed up all that much yet. It was shockingly cold. I took Corey with me – he’s a new friend who has been working with us at the Ranch. He was a bit unwilling to try the water at first, but with Jesse’s help, he found his way in. It was a nice day to be out on the lake, and Winona is as beautiful as ever.
that’s a nice way to put it, i “helped” him “find” his way in.
Helped: Definition “to throw voluntarily without malicious intent to do what others cannot do.” Cannon balls and swan dives cannot compare to a helpful “chucking” into the water. Hats off to Jesse in his service there! Now the flag thing….
