Trail Ride Extraordinaire

Posted on Monday 6 September 2010Monday 6 September 2010 by Joshua

Today I took a bike ride with a group of cool folks from Jeremy Nichols’ (Chad’s dad) church. We met up in Bloomigdale, Michigan (about 70 miles from my house) which is about midway along the 33 mile Kal-Haven Bike Trail. Our trip was about 18 miles and ended at the lighthouse in South Haven. The trail is an old train track that has been gravelled and is a wonderful trek through the woods, over stream and even a covered bridge (ironically… TheDonald Nichols Bridge). At one point, one of the boys who was riding a road bike, lost his tire to a blow out. It was incredibly loud – like a gunshot. I have never heard a tire blow like that! Amazingly, they switched back and forth and road the thing the rest of the way on the flat. Zach (my good friend Chad’s younger brother) rode it a lot of the way… it was a bit of a stiff ride for him. We had some rain at the beginning of the day but once we got there it was sunny and warm.

All in all, a beautiful day for a ride and the miles went by easy. At some point I would like to ride the whole 33 miles. That would be sweet! I need to find one of these trails a little closer to home though. Of course if that were the case, it would probably end up in a corn field not… a beach!
