I have to say that the Obama campaign logo is really good – I saw it the other day on a car and said, “Wow, they really did a nice job with that.” But a good logo isn’t everything. I caught this video on Dave & Liz’s site and had to post it here as well. Obama says alot of nice stuff, talks about change, and he’s got some great ideas. There’s just this one little thing that bugs me about the man. Ok, maybe it’s not little. In fact it’s hugely significant. At his very foundation, at the core of who he is [apparently] Mr. Obama does not respect life. He does not seem to care that 53 million babies have been brutally murdered since 1973. And people continue to say ridiculous things like, “When are you going to stop harping on the abortion issue.” Or, “Everyone is sick of hearing about the abortion issue, can we just move on?” As a nation, if we continue to allow this to go on, the only direction we will move is down – into further depravity. So even though he looks and sounds like the perfect candidate, Mr. Obama would never get my vote unless he changed his statements on respecting and defending the life of the unborn child. I pray that would happen.
Could electing Obama actually reduce the number of abortions by improving the economy and healthcare system? It seems like if you wanted to increase the quantity of abortions, you would make having a baby incredibly expensive (and it can be — $15,000 for a C-Section is common) and make supporting a family increasingly difficult. As we can see with McCain’s own VP-choice, faith-based sex education increases teen pregnancy. Dogma makes us feel better, but reality is a much more powerful tonic for change.
Jerry, I’m a little unclear as to what your points are here. On your first point, it sounds like you are saying that it is too expensive to have children so why not kill them? That the economy and healthcare system offers no other viable choice than a cheaper get-rid-of-the-problem-in-the-womb scenario. Shed some light here.
Point two: “As we can see with McCain’s own VP-choice, faith-based sex education increases teen pregnancy. Dogma makes us feel better, but reality is a much more powerful tonic for change.” Expound on this. I want to hear more of what you have to say before I weigh in.
Also I noticed that this video is from the Fox family of networks. I wouldn’t trust anything associated with them. I am not pro abortion, as I feel that since I do not have a uterus, I do not have the right to decide who gets to live and who gets to die. The choice a woman makes is not an easy one but it is their choice. Even tho we disagree on this issue Josh , I think airing a slick Fox production that tears at your strings is a cheap shot at Obama who was raised mainly by a single woman who gave birth to him at age 18.
Nice topic Josh. Get ready for 12 trillion comments. Anyway, I used to think like Kevin here. Giving the women the choice because it’s not my body so why get involved. But for me, not saying for you Kevin, but for me, there came a time where I felt that this was a complete cop out to ever actually make a decision on this issue. I could see the safe thing to do as a young kid who got his girlfriend pregnant would say something like, “whatever you decide, I’ll be there for you”. That is about the most submissive role you could take and an irresponsible one. That child’s well being is just as much the man’s responsibility as it is the woman’s. Granted that man can’t make that final decision but there should be certain fathers rights by law to save that child’s life if he wants to. As far as voting and looking at the best person from the job, I personally find it very hard to vote for a candidate based on one issue. I mean it’s one issue, Mcain could be a pro-life candidate as a republican but have no desire to feed the and help the poor. Not saying thats true but just an example. As Obama could be pro-choice but have an excellent plan to get everyone the proper health care. I don’t know it’s all rubbish to me. Do we as Christians, as in followers of Christ, really vote according to this one issue. And it is a biggie, I know. And my heart breaks.
Psalm 131: A pilgrim song:
GOD, I’m not trying to rule the roost, I don’t want to be king of the mountain. I haven’t meddled where I have no business or fantasized grandiose plans. I’ve kept my feet on the ground, I’ve cultivated a quiet heart. Like a baby content in its mother’s arms, my soul is a baby content. Wait, Israel, for GOD. Wait with hope. Hope now; hope always!
-The Message of course-
Obama’s voting record is interesting. Rather than voting yes or no on many of these abortion bills, here merely voting present meaning he was “there.” apparently a political ploy to get out of committing one way or the other. again, i have little time or respect for game playing. Make a choice and stand by it. You can’t stay on the fence.
Regarding what was said about the right to decide who lives or dies, I most certainly think that all citizen of the world has the responsibility to protect lives of the defenseless and innocent! As Mother Theresa said, if you don’t want your babies, give them to me. She was so saddened by a culture who disposes of their children because of inconvenience.
And no one with a conscience will say they are “for abortion.” Of course not. But the cold hard truth is that we allow it as a culture. We have allowed millions and millions of children to die in our country. A generation has completely been eliminated. It is a silent holocaust that grieves the heart of God.
And please understand that my issue is not which political party or news network airs this story, it is the reality of what we allow as a nation. I can only think that the next logical step in this progression (regression) from killing innocent babies, would be eliminating the strain on the health care system caused by the elderly and sick.
From a Biblical point of view, God takes murder very seriously. Take Cain and Abel: “The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.” (Gen. 4:10) Blood makes a voice to Heaven that we cannot hear. It always seeks justice. It’s plea will not go unanswered.
Abortion is not the only issue that matters in our country but murder is the most severely punished.
Let’s just not care about voting…that is an issue no one is willing to talk about. The world has never HEARTFULLY been changed through politics….Why I think Jesus gave no care to it. The world changes through the people IN my life…just like the church appointing a pastor, we give responsibility to some man so we can secretly have less responsibility. And you can see that when all goes to hell, who is blamed?
If Jesus were walking today, I believe I would not see Him at the polls in Nov, nor his followers….
Change the world from inside out, not outside in.
This is the thing that gets me every time the topic of a woman’s choice comes up: What about the choice of the one living inside of the women? Who author’s life? Where does it come from? Does intercourse author life? No. God is the author of life. So when does it become our right to choose to snuff out that life or to let it grow?
I am a glutton for punishment…but it always seems I post and no one responds after that…haha do I dare ask if this is coincidence? Come on, I want disagreement ga’ll darnit.
The first thing I want to address is the original point. I hate the terms ‘right to life’ and ‘right to choose’ because it mucks up the issue. Nobody has a ‘right’ over life. Where in the Consitution were we EVER given that much power? We have the right to live but we do not have the right to decide who dies and who doesn’t. It’s a slippery slope. I think it begins with the unborn children and will end with deciding the quality of life a person could live- from the elderly to the disabled. We have the right to make choices but it doesn’t make the choices right. (I really hope that made sense.) Abortion is wrong. It’s not totally political for me but it is religious. I am in a relationship with Christ, who is Love. Love for the life He has created. I am involved in this issue because I am involved with a God who takes care of His creation. It’s just that simple. So, if it stands that Mr. Barack is not for the care of my Father’s creation, then sorry- He will get my prayers but that’s it. The second thing, I will respond to you Casey. Do I think Jesus would show-up at the polls? He does-He does when His people show-up. We claim to do everything in the name of Christ, and in doing so we better be really careful and thought out about what we do when it comes to making the big decisions…like who will be the leader of our nation. We can’t run and hide and pretend that this is something we have no say so in or shouldn’t. We are given the gift of citzenship-like all things I believe God calls us to be good stewards of it. Not doing anything…and doing it under the pretense of it won’t change anything is something akin to what the theologian Bonhoeffer wrote about when he talked why he acted as he had during the days of Nazi occupied Germany. He wasn’t a Jew, he wasn’t black, he wasn’t anything but a Lutheran pastor who believed by allowing evil to go on and letting the enemy murder and kill as he saw fit- was not what Christ had called him to. He knew that if he did not take a stand- that when the day would come for his time to be imprisoned- who would stand for him? No one would be left. Our God is not like that- He cares, He loves, He hurts, and He needs us to understand why He is hurting and why we should be standing for unborn children and human life, in general. And somebody said in some movie, that with great power comes great responsibility. God has given us the power of freedom, but with it comes the responsibility to make sure that freedom is not abused, with-held, or perverted but it kept as He originally intended it to be.
Just another post…
sorry casey but you’ll hear no rebuttal from me 🙂
Words of wisdom from Uncle Ben. I agree. I also agree that it is really hard to vote when these two candidates (or political parties)are my option.
Just so we are clear, I am not taking the approach of “it doesn’t matter anyways cause God is in control blah blah.” We all have to prioritize how we live our lives and how we “steward our time.” I submit, the value we put on politics on NOT something we should “waste” our time on because POLITICS is used by God, yes, but is not the way to change the world. Jesus, Gandhi, MLK, Mother T DID NOT use politics to change the world MORE than any others in history. How many people will know who the President is/was in a 100 years? Who will know MLK and the above mentioned people a millennium from now? (if God does not return before then)
God is in all things and is “voting” even in abortions….I asked if He were walking this earth? I do know this, WHILE He was on this earth, politics was NOT in the top 100 of his list. The only time He ever addresses anything political is when others tried to PUSH Him into it and even then He cleverly deferred the question and made it an almost stupid question.
He and others changed the world for good more than any others WITHOUT politics. I would even go so far as to say that politics gets in the WAY more than helps….see my first post about Pastors.
We are to be respectful of the government in our dealings, yes, but it is not our focus. Just turn on the tv and you can see it is completely an American focus…as well as American Christians.
Besides, if we want to get picky…the President doesn’t even run the country.lol lol Congress does, and nobody seems to talk about those elections…lol
