It is fascinating to me how the term for an internet search engine has wound its way into modern vernacular and has been become a common verb – an action item, if you will. We “google” people and things to find what we want on the internet. Isn’t that wild? If someone can’t find a piece of information, I always ask them, “well, did you google it?” And more often than not, I have heard similar discussions with people using the term in a verb form. “I googled him the other day and I found out his address.”
Speaking of addresses, that is why I was googling. I was unable to find my dad’s email address, so I figured I would merely google him and see if it was on the internet somewhere. When you google Jim Petrillo, the first thing that comes up is a whole bunch of information about James Petrillo, a trumpet player who later organized the union for professional musicians in Chicago. There’s even a bandshell named after him in Grant Park.
At any rate, as I continued down through the various links, I came across this amazing photo of my dad. I had never seen it before and was really surprised I had not heard of it from anyone at home. It was published in IMAGES from New York State’s Tech Valley Magazine (Here is a copy of the spread.) It was taken by Nashville photographer Brian McCord, (who I had not heard of, but whose photography I really enjoy now that I have seen some of it). The juxtaposition of the dark sky and the lighting on the saw blade and his arm and face is really dramatic. It’s really a great photo. So it was a pleasant surprise to come across the other day.
So google someone today… You never know who or what you may come across!
Here are the pics of my Dad – the first one is the dramatic one, and the second two are part of the series taken through the carvings. Pretty cool stuff!
So, a guy who used to work with me shared with me an incredible amount of information about me. I was a lil freaked out, he told me about how I left Tricia Stevens a message on her site when she was going to Grace. It was weird. Anyway, yay for fun photos!
That first pic is really great. I think with you being a grounds guy. You could use a killer beard like that. I am super jealous.
