Today was the 40th Anniversary of Roe v Wade decision… a decision that has cost the lives of over 55 million children. That number is staggering to me. I remember long ago when my mother spent hours on the phones at our churches crisis pregnancy crisis counseling center. It was called Life Saver Ministries and basically gave the women who called counsel and options beyond simply killing the child. In fact we even had girls come to live with families in our church, and eventually bought a camp and established a group home and school to teach them life skills and finish high school.
So from a young teenager, I saw all the photos of aborted children, heard about all the techniques, but at the same time, I clearly knew that this was a child – not a faceless lump of tissue. It was a privilege to see my mother doing what she does so well – counseling, sharing Jesus, fighting for life. In those days, I was learning graphic design, and I had the honor of laying out many of the training materials and manuals for the ministry. I am glad to say that I grew up in a church that stood for life and didn’t just hold signs or shout at people, but we made a difference by taking them in, giving them a home, education, and life skills.
